Non-Nuclear related products & services

ENEC and its subsidiary mandated to operate and maintain the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, Nawah Energy Company, are committed to the highest standards of safety and quality in all aspects of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. To ensure these standards are met, the procurement of all products and services, including non-nuclear-related ones, follows a strict and robust process.

Approximately 70% to 80% of all components in a nuclear energy plant are non-safety related, but even these can have an impact on the quality and reliability of plant operations. A large part of the operational parts and services required for the Barakah Plant consist of Quality Class T, R or S, items which are designed and fabricated in accordance with the standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), used in other energy generation technology sectors such as conventional power or oil and gas.

The majority of suppliers of non-nuclear-related products and services supply Nawah for high-quality plant maintenance activities, ensuring the reliable operation of the Barakah Plant. Among the many services required, local companies have the opportunity to provide support for maintenance, testing, calibration, NDE, in-service inspections, equipment replacement and upgrade, engineering, education and training.

ENEC’s Industrial Development department developed a plan for the localization of these materials and services to enhance opportunities for UAE organizations to supply the Barakah plant throughout its 60 or more years of operation.
