Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1)
The ENEC and Nawah Quality Assurance (QA) program was established and implemented to satisfy the requirements of UAE Laws and the regulations of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), as well as ASME NQA-1-1994, Part I & II with 1995 Addenda.
The manufacturers of safety-related items (“Q” class) or service providers for safety-related equipment shall implement the NQA-1 compliant Quality Management System for applicable scope of work. Safety Related (Q class) are the systems, structures, components, procedures and controls of a facility or process that are relied upon to remain functional during following design-basis events.
NQA-1 Structure
NQA-1 Part 1 provides requirements that prescribe the extent of controls needed in specific areas of a nuclear quality program (an ASME NQA program). The 18 requirements found in NQA-1 are derived from the 18 Criteria found NRC 10CFR50 Appendix B Quality Assurance Criteria for Nuclear Power Plants and Fuel Reprocessing Plants and are as follows:

Additionally, Parts II to IV of the Standard provide mandatory and non-mandatory subparts that contain further guidance and more in-depth discussion on certain aspects.
Upon request, the ENEC Industrial Development and ENEC QA Department can provide guidance about implementation of NQA-1 Quality Management System for local manufacturers and service providers intending to become suppliers for the Barakah Plant. To raise awareness, increase understanding and guide interested organizations, the ENEC and Nawah QA team runs periodic awareness sessions on NQA-1.
