Maintenance Services

The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is in the process of transitioning from a construction project to a fully operational nuclear energy plant. Barakah Unit 1 began operating on 31 July 2020 and connected to the UAE grid on 19 August 2020, delivering clean electricity produced by peaceful nuclear energy in the UAE for the first time in history. Once fully operational, the plant will supply up to 25% of the UAE’s electricity needs with zero emissions.

The safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Barakah plant can only be sustained with a robust, strong and effective maintenance function that ensures the high level of reliability of all plant structures, systems and components. These are all in accordance with the overriding safety requirements of the plant’s design.

To ensure safe and reliable operation of the plant it is imperative to have local service providers that can support the Barakah Plant during operation and outages by providing high quality materials and services.

Maintenance services may include, but are not limited to:

  • corrective maintenance
  • preventive maintenance
  • predictive maintenance
  • planning and performance of outages
  • performance and implementation of plant modifications to different plant systems
  • supporting systems, structures and balance of plant and such other related activities that the plant operator considers as necessary

Plant maintenance activities are connected to and include servicing, overhaul, repair and replacement of parts, functional and performance testing of plant, surveillance, calibration and in-service inspection.

The localization of maintenance services is a key element in achieving a prompt mobilization of required resources (labor, equipment, etc.) during plant operation and outages. Nawah, as the plant operator, is committed to use locally available experienced and qualified companies for maintenance support where possible.
