ENEC Discusses the Nuclear Supply Chain and Opportunities of Hydrogen Production with the US-UAE Business Council

A senior delegation from the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) jointly hosted a business forum with the US – UAE Business Council this week in Washington DC. ENEC’s delegation also participated in a Hydrogen Roundtable event to discuss the business opportunities of clean hydrogen production.

During the forum, senior executives provided an update for over 70 US business leaders from the nuclear industry and the Nuclear Energy Institute, on the latest developments at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE. They also gave an overview of the wider UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program activities that ENEC is focusing on, including advanced technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and clean hydrogen. Attendees also learned the business opportunities available for US companies to partner with UAE businesses to join the UAE’s growing nuclear supply chain.

His Excellency Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, gave a welcome address, where he highlighted the important role US companies have played in the development of Barakah, and the wide range of opportunities ahead for US and UAE businesses to work together to benefit from the growing global nuclear sector.

H.E. Hammadi also led a delegation of senior officials from ENEC at a Hydrogen Roundtable event hosted with the US-UAE Business Council in Washington DC, USA earlier this week. Over 15 senior executives from leading US companies specializing in clean hydrogen production joined the event, along with representatives from the Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative.

The executives discussed the current outlook for clean hydrogen generation, the business opportunities available as well as demand forecasts for clean hydrogen for energy storage and industrial purposes. Clean hydrogen is a key component of the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy, and ENEC is exploring options for hydrogen generation as nuclear energy offers an excellent solution for generating the electricity, heat and steam required for clean hydrogen production.
