ENEC Announces Changes to Board of Directors

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) today announced changes to its Board of Directors with two new members joining. The new members will serve on a Board that oversees ENEC, and represents the interests of the majority Joint Venture partner ENEC across its subsidiaries Nawah Energy Company (Nawah), ENEC’s operations and maintenance subsidiary, as well as the Barakah One Company, an organization mandated to manage the commercial interests of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

The two new members are His Excellency (H.E.) Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, and H.E. Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of Etisalat UAE operations.

Al Hammadi has been integral in the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, building the foundations prior to the establishment of ENEC by decree in 2009. He has led the development of the Program over the past decade in line with national requirements and international best practice, taking the Barakah Plant from inception to construction to start of commercial operations for Unit 1 in April 2021. He plays a key role in the UAE’s clean electricity transition and climate change efforts. He has served on the board of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Atlanta Center since 2015, therefore bringing a wealth of knowledge in global nuclear standards.

Mahmood was previously the CEO of Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) and is an experienced business leader, having held executive positions within government and semi-government entities including Dubai Holding and the Executive Office of H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He holds board level positions at Yahsat, the UAE Space Agency and Etihad Aviation Group and brings with him a wealth of experience in the fields of international business development and investment management.

ENEC also announced two outgoing members of the Board of Directors, Mr. Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei and Mr Mohammed Hamdan Al Falahi. Both Mr Al Mazrooei and Mr Al Falahi have been longstanding members of the Board of Directors, providing expertise, advice and direction throughout the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, the delivery of the Barakah plant, and its subsequent operations. ENEC thanks them for their continuous commitment and service during their many years of diligent service to ENEC, its subsidiaries and the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program.
